PCC Launches Financial Literacy Workshop Series & First Workshop on Prioritizing Financial Goals

Philippine Centre Canada Launches Financial Literacy Workshop Series to a Full House

The Philippine Centre Canada (PCC) proudly kicked off its new Financial Literacy Workshop Series this past Saturday, welcoming a full house of engaged community members eager to take charge of their financial futures. The strong turnout reflects the growing appetite within Ottawa's Filipino-Canadian community for accessible, practical financial education.

Workshop 1: Prioritizing Financial Goals

The inaugural session, Prioritizing Financial Goals, was led by facilitator Jean Roxas, who walked participants through the foundational building blocks of financial wellness. Rather than jumping straight into numbers, the workshop encouraged participants to first reflect on what truly matters to them, laying the groundwork for financial decisions that align with their personal values.

Key topics covered included:

  • Aligning financial goals with personal values — helping participants define what financial success actually looks like for them and their families

  • Prioritizing short- and long-term goals — distinguishing between immediate needs and future aspirations, and learning how to balance both

  • Conducting a financial audit — a hands-on look at where money is really going each month, often revealing surprising spending patterns

  • The 50-30-20 budgeting method — a practical framework for allocating income across needs, wants, and savings or debt repayment

Beyond the presentation, participants took part in reflective exercises designed to help them examine their personal relationship with money, to walk away with concrete, actionable next steps.

A Special Guest in Attendance

The launch event was further honoured by the presence of Philippine Ambassador Jose Victor V. Chan-Gonzaga, whose attendance was a strong show of support for financial empowerment initiatives within the community. His presence underscored the significance of this series not just as a local program, but as part of a broader commitment to strengthening the financial resilience of Filipino-Canadians across the region.

Supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation

This workshop series is made possible through funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, whose support allows PCC to offer this programming free of barriers to community members. This investment reflects a shared belief that financial literacy is foundational to community wellbeing and long-term stability.

Looking Ahead

With Workshop 1 behind us, PCC is looking forward to continuing this momentum through the rest of the series. Our mission remains simple: to help community members build financial skills and confidence, one step at a time.

Stay tuned for details on our next upcoming session!
